ABOUT: The SFMC Elementary Math Circle is an alternative math enrichment program designed to develop a positive attitude towards mathematics by introducing young children to elements of mathematical culture.  We carefully select and train mathematicians who have the capacity to gracefully and compassionately share their enthusiasm for mathematics with children.  Our instructors lead engaging mathematical activities on topics chosen from higher mathematics including number theory, game theory, combinatorics, probability and statistics, abstract algebra and topology.  To learn more, please view our video.

Class Levels: The SFMC Elementary Math Circle program at Clarendon gives priority enrollment to students attending Clarendon Alternative Elementary School.  We have one math circle for 2nd-3rd graders and one math circle for 4th-5th graders.  The mathematical content is very different from traditional K-12 math and is equally new and stimulating for all students.

Cost: SFMC Elementary is a fee-based program.  The cost is $300 per student per semester (this includes 10 weeks of instruction).  Additionally, we have a generous sliding scale to ensure that all families who are interested in Math Circle can afford to attend.

Welcome New and Returning Students!

We welcome new* and returning students to our program!  The SF Math Circle at Clarendon is designed to be a safe and enjoyable place for students who like to solve problems and do mathematics.  We provide rich mathematical content in an engaging context, as well as much encouragement, but the students must bring the rest -- energy, interest, and an openness to try new things!  While students don't have to identify as loving math from the onset, they should at least have an open mind about trying out the SF Math Circle and should demonstrate enthusiasm for the program within the first two weeks.  In order to help your students get a sense of whether they would like our program, please show them our SF Math Circle video.  Additionally, the parent should review our Elementary Parent Handbook to get a sense of our policies and to determine if we are a good fit for your family.

*Please note: The SFMC Elementary Math Circle program at Clarendon gives priority enrollment to students attending Clarendon Alternative Elementary School.
