As a SFMC leader, instructor, assistant, or other staff member, you are expected to:
§ Communicate in a timely manner
o Respond to emails or phone calls within 24-48 hours. This applies to communication with Co-Directors, site coordinators, co-instructors, assistants, and volunteers.
o Be open to feedback from all SFMC staff.
§ Email activity by Friday for HS/MS sites -OR- Wednesday by 5pm for Elementary
o This can be a draft, but it should be thorough enough for everyone to have a good sense of your plan. For your lesson.
o You must CC Addie and your co-instructors, assistants, and volunteers.
o Send activity plan as an attachment, not in the body of the email.
§ Arrange for substitutes in your absence (to be approved by Co-Directors)
o You are responsible for compensating anyone who substitutes for you. SFMC will not be able to pay them directly.
o In an emergency, SFMC Co-Directors will find a substitute for you.
§ Preparing engaging and meaningful activities with little emotional cost to the students:
o Keep in mind SFMC’s goals: engaging problem solving with novel content, including college level, that is relevant to a diverse student body.
o Math circle sessions should be activities or problem solving focused, rather than lectures.
§ Collect paperwork and attendance.
o Attendance is crucial to gaining new grants. You are required to make sure all students are accounted for, as well as collecting paperwork from students/parents.
o Student paperwork is crucial for acquiring parent release of liability and contact information.
§ Attend SFMC staff meetings.
o You are required to attendance three meetings: 1. At the beginning of the semester, 2. mid-semester, 3. End of the year.
