Math Movies! A great fun-draiser

Wow! We had so much fun geeking out with everyone who came to watch Donald in Mathmagic Land and Flatland with us. We enjoyed seeing all the lovely faces who came to support us, watch math on the big screen, and win some geeky prizes. Over 100 people came on the historic Balboa Theatre January 18th to see mathmagic on the big screen.  We are so grateful for the community of students, teachers, parents, and math nerds that love and support SF Math Circle!

My favorite part of the day was listening to the kids give their solutions to the math questions. Nothing is cuter to me than youngsters laying out some solid logically thinking. We gave away a lot of raffle tickets to these kids! I keep wondering if anyone who won a prize due to the raffle tickets they won. There were some really cool math prizes!  I really enjoyed watching the kids (of all ages) win them! A very young girl won the pretty gold polygon necklace that I handpicked myself for the event. I hope I see her wearing it at math circle!

It was also beautiful to see mathematics grace the big screen. We are hoping to have other fundraisers in the future, movie oriented and not. We want to see some adult math films on the big screen, like a Beautiful Mind of Pi, or perhaps some episodes of the Simpsons or Futurama where they reference mathematics.

Got ideas for future fundraisers or math movies to watch? Let us know!
