Spring 2019 Starr King Math Circle Program Details

About

SF State’s Math Circle is an alternative math outreach and enrichment program that focuses on exploration and problem-solving.  We seek to broaden our students' perception of what it means to do mathematics and to be a mathematician. We provide students with the tools to play with mathematics in a deeper way, and with an environment in which they feel comfortable exploring new and challenging things.

Class Levels

At Starr King Elementary, we offer 2nd-3rd grade circles and 4th-5th grade circles. The mathematical content is very different from school math and is equally new and stimulating for all students.

Class Calendar

We hope that all prospective students will be able to find a class that works for them and their families! SFMC @Starr King offers classes for each grade level on Wednesday from 2:50-3:50 and Wednesday from 4:10-5:10.

The program will run eight weeks starting in January and ending in March.

Wednesdays:

First Session: 1/30, 2/6, 2/13, 2/20, 2/27, 3/6, 3/13, 3/20

Second Session: 4/3, 4/10, 4/17, 4/24, 5/1, 5/8, 5/15, 5/22

All dates and times are tentative and subject to change.

Cost

This is a fee-based program.  The cost is $240 per student per semester (this includes eight weeks of instruction).  Additionally, we have a generous sliding scale to ensure that all families who are interested in Math Circle can afford to attend.

REDUCED TUITION & FEE WAIVERS

SFMC hopes to accommodate as many students as possible. Families undergoing financial hardship may apply for a free or reduced tuition. To do so, please let us know and request a form by emailing sfmathcircle@gmail.com. Upon review and approval, your child will then be added to the appropriate session.

Location

This program is located at Starr King Elementary School and is hosted in classrooms onsite.
